🎧 This Week’s Happenings

The Met Gala, now crowned “The Convention of the Worst People in the World” by The Nerve, has come and gone. We had such a blast coming to you live from New York with real takes on the fake people who showed up; who wasn’t in attendance (hi, Meghan!); and how the event has changed as Anna Wintour reluctantly passes the baton (while squeezing out her hand-picked successor and nepo-spawn Chloe Malle, outfitted in a gown so ill-fitting that we uniformly gasped). Our panel of Nerve all-stars included showbiz vet and bestselling author Rob Shuter, fashion and royal expert Kinsey Schofield, and the return of celebrity makeup artist Tim MacKay, who you all have been asking for. We hear you, always!

We thank the Troublemakers who alerted Maureen, in the livestream chat, that Blake “The Snake” Lively had indeed shown up! Notably, she was once again flying solo and seemed to be pulling a Meghan Markle, yelling at male assistants. Wherever was her husband, psycho arsonist Ryan? At least he was represented in effigy on our set, his floating head atop our mini fire extinguisher. Safety first at The Nerve! As noted by Rob in our Nerve at Night recap, we will have to keep a close eye on this marriage — Ryan is reportedly the one who pushed Blake into a settlement and seems to be fearing the backlash. Another shock: Olivia Wilde’s transformation. We showed a recent pic of her looking unrecognizable, hoping it was a fluke, but she looked gaunt at the Gala as well. Maybe it was the news of her ex, Harry Styles, suddenly getting engaged to Zoë Kravitz — and The Nerve’s panel was unanimous in judging Zoë a dud. We did, however, swoon over Tom Ford and Julianne Moore bringing old-school Hollywood glamour.

Several A-list celebs ignored the 18-and-over rules by bringing their wanna-be model/singer/actor children — and this is an event that’s reportedly seen hard drug use and sex in the bathrooms. We guess in some circles it’s never too soon to grow up. Blue Ivy made headlines for the wrong reasons as the youngest attendee, ignoring her dad and stylists as they asked her to take off her sunglasses. But when your dad’s been humiliated by your aunt, who made headlines for beating the shit out of him in an elevator after a Met Gala afterparty, how could Jay-Z’s parental authority not take a ding?

Because of such low attendance, tech giants including Snapchat, OpenAI and the likes were roped into buying tables. For the kicker: Jeff Bezos is reportedly selling his $500 million mega-yacht to cover the tab racked up by his new bride. From star-studded to Silicon and silicone, oh how the mighty have fallen. We have to give a shout-out to top stylist Law Roach, for his seemingly Nerve-y styling of Lauren Sanchez. Here’s a side-by-side of his styling of Zendaya (one of two looks she had that night) for the 2024 Met Gala, when she was co-chair, compared to Lauren.

During this inaugural live stream, we also introduced The Nerve’s first-ever Pet Gala, featuring the fabulous Teddy Van Halen and little sidekick Trouble. They brought back some archival Met looks with their own spin.

To end the week, much to Marlaina’s dismay, we went in on Bill Maher and his recent interview with a sex neuroscientist. The guy has a one-track mind — never change, Bill! Intervention number two for our beloved Marlaina is incoming. Next, Meg Josephson joined to have the conversation that few else are having: how difficult Mother’s Day can be for some. So whether you have a difficult relationship with your mom, are experiencing your first Mother’s Day without her, or are navigating motherhood yourself, go give Meg a listen for some smart, compassionate insight and advice — she answered many Troublemaker dilemmas here.

Keep reading for behind-the-scenes from the livestream, some runners-up from the contest to win Rob’s book, a note from Maureen, and more!
