Spring "Break," Nerve Style
A little behind the scenes to keep you going, and some cultural tidbits!
🎧 This Week’s Happenings
Troublemakers! We lasted what — five minutes? A full week apart was never realistic. So until we’re all together again on Tuesday, we’ve got Nerve updates and teasers for you. Huge thanks to Paul from NZ for taking up the reins on his Substack, and for looping Nerve HQ in on Troublemaker feedback and requests over there!
Bubbling in our cultural cauldron (a shout-out to Paul’s inaugural art, nearly one year ago!): We’ll be getting into Savannah’s return to the Today show — Hoda, we hear, was told her services (such as they are) were no longer needed. But there’s a plot twist! Craig slipped up this week (The Nerve sleeps with one eye open), outing colleague/charisma-vacuum Jenna Bush Hager’s cameo in the upcoming ‘Devil Wears Prada 2.’ So, guess who’s “filling in” while Craig’s on “vacation”? You guessed it: None other than The Nerve’s friendly neighborhood lizard, evading public and private pest control. Not to worry — we’re back in time, rested and ready, to cover all of Hoda’s befoulments.
And it goes without saying: The Nerve is all over Meghan’s upcoming “girls’ weekend” retreat in Australia, taking place on what we call Shitball Beach. Yes, actual balls of soap scum, human hair and shit have been washing up right in front of the hotel hosting our most regal duchess (see Nerve episode 116 for more). Could there be a better metaphor, or proof that the gods smile upon The Nerve?
Meanwhile, Oprah made her way onto Stephen Colbert’s show and — are we shocked? — took over the entire interview, briefly mentioning our still-missing Stedman. The Nerve keeps moving the culture — even the once-mighty O! Not since 1985 has she mentioned Stedman this much. And Troublemakers, not to worry: Detective Teddy and his new recruit Trouble are watching this footage like the Zapruder film. Teddy has informed your humble Troublemaker-in-Chief that he’ll be filing his report over the weekend, after naps, treats, and belly rubs. God forbid this little guy unionize.
One more tidbit: Anna Wintour made her debut on the cover of Vogue, for the first time ever, with Meryl Streep. A power move so clean it barely made a sound. We’re covering what all of this means next week — and if Chloe Malle needs The Nerve to explain it to her . . . actually, she does. We know this, because she posted this cover on her own IG with exclamation points and excitement. Wise up, Chloe, and tune into The Nerve next week! Otherwise, keep shaking in your boots — or, more likely, your frumpy Bass Weejuns.
We’ll have to leave the rest to your imaginations till Tuesday, when we’re back with a packed show! And some of our fave regulars return to put out the cultural dumpster fires exploding in our absence. Speaking of: Has anyone seen Ryan Reynolds?
Finally, as we endure these last few days apart, send in your questions for Rob Shuter! As Troublemakers everywhere know, his scandalous new novel, It Started with a Whisper, is The Nerve’s first official book club pick — and we Troublemakers have moved it to the top of the Amazon charts! Plus, we need your thoughts and suggestions about how to celebrate The Nerve’s first birthday, coming up on April 21st!
Keep reading for Maureen’s spring break viewing, fresh art from Paul from NZ, a Ted & Trouble dispatch (the puppy loves that you guys want to know how he’s doing!), and more.
